The $5 "Cure Videos" Challenge

Many of you know the group Unite2FightParalysis (www.U2FP.org) and the wonderful yearly conference they put on called Working2Walk (www.W2W.org).

There are many like myself who would love to attend and hear the exciting presentations made by scientists and activists in the fight to cure paralysis. Well, flying from Japan, booking a hotel, and all the costs associated with out country, or even out of city travel, doesn't fit into my budget.

But does U2FP leave me or you out just because we can't afford the time or money? No, they make sure that the presentation are available to ALL of us for free on the internet.

Click here to watch the videos. You'll be asked to log into your account and you'll get a password for the videos. If you don't have an account, you can log in through your facebook or twitter account, or create a new login. Whichever way you do it, you'll get a password which you can use.

Although they make it free to watch, it's not free for U2FP. I have learned that making the videos available to us for free costs them about $5000 for the videographer and then many many hours in volunteer time to get them ready for the final upload and editing. So I'd like to make all the video presentation viewers out there a simple, cheap challenge. From now on, every time I watch a 2013 video (the first time) I'm going to donate five bucks, and I want you to do the same. There is a donate link on all the videos which you can access after registering to view (registering doesn't oblige you to donate). You can support U2FP and their work to find a cure for spinal cord injury for as little as $5, and supporting cure is a lot better than any of the other things you can buy for a fiver. Of course, if you think that $5 at a time is a pain, please feel free just to make a larger, one off donation.

Hope you take the challenge!

  1. Here you all are at least 10/15 years behind with markeing and communication technology. I think U2FP should just ask someone attending W2W to make the videos and put them on you tube for free (I am sure several people are willing to do that) and/or at the same time they could simply put it on streaming live for free and the recording would be available immediatly after the end of the recording.

    1. Who are these several people that would do that?

      Delete
    2. There's no obvious reason to even have a conference if everyone lays around home doing free streaming live. They may as well cancel this shindig for spinal cord injury and fold up their organization. Since that will probably happen anyway, maybe we could ask CDRF if it would be possible for them to start holding a sci meeting? Years ago they used to have a conference to solicit ambassadors and talk about their gala fundraising and things. RHF had a conference last year too. I didn't attend it, but I heard they talked about acute injuries and care issue though. We could ask RHF to have an international meeting in the United States for us. With all the money they get in donations, why aren't they doing free streaming live of their gala's and meetings?

      Delete
    3. Because RHF and CDRF doesn't owe anyone a meeting, streaming live or videos about cure research and advocacy for free. They wouldn't stand for it because that's not where the profits and publicity are. If people don't support u2fp and the W2W meeting, that too will eventually fold from lack of participation and attendance. I rather doubt their speakers would show up to talk to an empty room with only a camera or lap top on the table. There's no reason for them to fly in and talk to themselves now is there?

      Delete
    4. Well, no. They should save their money too since we're all going to be at home anyway. Instead of having a meeting like W2W for advocates and research, we could just have a Skype call for free and tell them we want them to find a cure for us. We could email labs and demand they speed things up too. Skype and email is free. These science guys can post their research on youtube for free too. Someone needs to tell them to just do that.

    5. All of you intelligent spinal cord injured people just cured paralysis. Eliminate the Unite 2 Fight Paralysis organization. Eliminate the Working 2 Walk Conference and their educational research and advocacy video's. Use free Skype, Use free Email, Use free YouTube. Problem solved and we now have CURE. Don't you just love all of this FREE marketing and technology that has come to light over the past 10/15 years and cured us with nobody having to even lift a single finger? AWESOME JOB PEOPLE !!!!!!!!!! LMAO.

    6. How do people think u2fp needs to give out their conference for free? If you go there you have to pay for their expenses to do it. If I stay at home and don't do anything then I can get their work and conference for free. That is a no brainer. They should just stop doing it all together and we could look around on youtube and carecure for cure ideas. ses.

    7. You get what you pay for. If you give nothing you should not expect anything either. Other orgs have tons and tons and money and they don't give us anything for free. Why do people expect this org to give us everything for free for cure?

      Delete
    8. A little $5 donation is nothing compared to the work that u2f does for all of us. Without them we wouldn't have hardly any orgs trying to help us. We already know that. Without Dennis, we wouldn't have anybody trying to get other orgs like RH or CDRF to listen too. I'll help any way that I can. Dennis makes it easy to help.

      Delete
    9. Love the yearly free cure video's from U2FP. I'll hit the donate button. Loads of good info on them.

      Delete
    10. People need to stop figuring out ways to dismantle u2fp and put them in ruins. They are all we've got. I'll gladly give my fiver donation for watching their video's Dennis!

      Delete
    11. Instead of just going along with them(thats all we got) why not have it so they don't run our show and that they would take input from us.

Look where having just one researcher who works the media and our piggy banks got us?

We dont need our own advocacy leaders turning on us either

      Delete
    12. If you're donating to RHF and CDRF then tell them to start investing in chronic research. The field has been filled with lots of research scientists for decades, but they're largely ignored and underfunded because people are willing to be injected with just about anything that's hyped on the internet and in overseas clinics. The lack of knowledge is a sad situation but that's one of the things that people need to take responsibility onto themselves for.

      Delete
    13. Historically, sci eats it's own.

      Delete
    14. You're right there. Look what sci did to CDRF when Christopher died. They destroyed his original cure mission and work to turn the org into a flashy circus.

      Delete
    15. We have Research for Cure and Roman Reed Foundation here in California. We're making good progress here too. It's really about knowing what the various organizational goals are and what their area of expertise is. We don't try to fit a round peg in a square hole. RHF and CDRF should probably just focus on rehab and care since that is their area of expertise.

      Delete
    16. I remember the Working 2 Walk meeting was all about those guys at San Diego and Irvine working on sci back a couple years ago. Those research and advocacy video's made at that meeting were good and I really learned a lot about their research. Roman Reed gave a fantastic speech. He's a wonderful advocate for sci cure.

      Delete
    17. Hey! I was at that one! We had a blast. I got to talk to a bunch of people at the labs over at the RIRC during their tour. Romans picture was in the RIRC too. Now there's one seriously dedicated dude on cure. I talked to him for awhile but the guy is like a celebrity. Everyone was gathered round him and then he also got the yearly award thing. We'd be cured if we had 10 Romans.

      Delete
    18. He's the sci guy running for political office in californa now to get something done on sci cure. Balls of steel that guy has. Dennis was helping him with signing and fax campaigns to get funding passed out there for research. These two smart dudes are our heavy hitter giants in the sci world. I admire their dedication to just keep on going no matter what else happens to them. Here's Dennis is in a hospital and Romans dad has cancer but they keep on working for cure. Roman is helping T.J. in Atlanta too.

      Delete
    19. Cool. I wish we had a Roman in the U.K. There's so much more that could be done over here. Mostly we need to deal with the political roadblocks but I think even those could be overcome with time and perseverance.

      Delete
    20. Leif, stop trying to run the sci show. You need to listen instead of turn on us. You used to be a leader. Now you only help promote Wise and his trial piggy bank. Stop. Ok?

      Delete
    21. Ok Bigbob troll. You and lazy butt Paolo start sci cure then. The rest watch leaders doing sci cure work. Not you 2 cry babies.

      Delete
    22. All three of you are mental.

      Delete
    23. and the snake oil salesman who you bowed to?

      Delete
    24. FOUR mental cases from carecure and counting. LMAO!! The cure word draws em like a magnet. No wonder CDR gave up and RH never got his toes wet on cure.

      Delete
    25. There's always been many loons cooked into the cure soup over the years. Read their posts and figure it out for yourself. It doesn't take much to spot them or their results.

      Delete
    26. I ignore their fighting. It's always been like that. Nothing changes on them guys.

      Delete
    27. When they fight because they are defending a snake oil salesman yep it's a problem. They so want to trust him and don't want to hear his magic won't work

      Delete
    28. I wish they stop tyring to beat up on cure shows and ehlping. Any researcher tells you they don't have cure yet to. I'm mad to but that is the way it goes. It will work out soon. Stop the mean ness on curing us. It make it all bad.

      Delete
    29. There is no magic cure potion. Ask the guys that traveled all over the world spending forturns on cells and see the w2w shows too. They tell you about work to make it pssible in the future. But not right now. The only one selling treatments is beike and some of those for money.

      Delete
    30. The problem is the fighting trolls guys that keep on seeping into every crack and crevice and weigh down the cure boat no matter how hard Dennis tries to keep the ship upright and floating. Let the cure boat sail instead of poking holes all over it.

      Delete
    31. The cure trolls need to elect their king that will rule over all of sci cure once and for all instead of killing all the soldiers on the battleground fighting sci.

      Delete
    32. The cure czar. That would get me walking again for sure. LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I nominate the court of Paolo Bigbob Leif Wise Kivi66 and Uncle Fester.

      Delete
    33. wow, KIVI66 he asked the good questions

I love when he told Wise to stop trials on humans and get a pig

      Delete
    34. That guy was in love with pigs I tell you. If he gets to be the cure czar, he'd have pig as cure team mascot. He'll need extra boxes of large size Depends.

      Delete
    35. That list of self appointed cure czars are what's keeping us royally screwed.

      Delete
    36. Wise is the self appointed one, if it were his accomplishments he'd be on methylpred. he's all hype

      Delete
    37. Wise didn't make you wealthy in a lawsuit troll Bigbob so get over it. He didn't make a basketball team for your kid either. Stop turning our best advocates against us.

      Delete
    38. Wise is all hype he tells stories

      Delete
    39. Like anyone doesn't already know that? You're a bit behind the times troller.

      Delete
    40. Dennis and Roman are awesome leaders. You just can't be that. They're the best of brains and brawn for cure. They get it done. They unite it and fight it. Incredible work!

      Delete
    41. Two great guys that know how to help us. They are a great team. I bet Roman gets elected and we'll have more research money here in California.

  2. That's what "EVERYONE ELSE" should be doing.......ya, right. Another arm chair expert typing on a keyboard and not doing shit but dreaming up stuff for non-existent volunteers should do for them. Who would have thunk it?

    1. Did they try to look for someone to do the videos for free? The technology needed to do good quality videos is very simple and many people are familiar with it

      Delete
    2. Funny. Why don't you spend money to go the conference and be a free videographer?

      Delete
    3. Not me man! I'm hanging out at home drinking beer and watching the cure people for free. I have a new big screen TV on order for Christmas so I don't need to go anywhere to talk to scientists and other crips wanting a cure. Someone else can show up and do it if they don't have cold beer and 55" flat screen like I do. Sorry.......

      Delete
    4. Sounds to me lazy butt Paolo will go to do it.

      Delete
    5. I think it would be whole lot simpler to just help the u2fp out with a small donation like Dennis suggested here. I don't believe u2fp needs to be recreated in someone else's image. Just send a few dollars to them if you like their free video's and cure work.

      Delete
    6. Thanks for having this blog Dennis. Yours is one of the best I follow and read. Get busy curing sci or live with this crap. It's not a choice for me. I believe a treatment will be coming real soon if we support it.

      Delete
  3. Amateur video footage for 2 solid days of a conference that's high enough quality to even post on youtube? What a dream that is! I get sea sick after the first 5 minutes of watching that kind of free footage on youtube video clips. I'll pass on watching. Streaming live doesn't do much for me either. At 2 in the morning, who wants to start a conference day? Really? uck!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Do you know how streaming chanals work? You seem not to have clue. Google hang out for ex is free and as you stop the streaming the recorded video is imediatly available on youtube for whoever wants to watch it later. No need to waste 5000$ for videos

      Delete
    2. Great to watch a researcher, but you're not going to see any of the big slides that are mounted at the sides of the rooms. Seems pretty hockey pockey to me...

      Delete
    3. Seems like it would be hard trying to keep an organization running on thin air. How does that work exactly when RHI and CDRF burn through millions every year and then people won't help U2FP with a 5 dollar donation? Strange ideas people have...

      Delete
    4. Why not make two google hangout places? One can show the slides they are talking about and then the other hangout can be where we see the person talking. All we need is two windows up on our computer and then there is no back and forth to get what is happening every place in the room. I only wish they could send me lunch through my computer too. LOL

      Delete
    5. I get it now. Cure is supposed to be all about a free lunch. I didn't think there was such a thing as a free lunch but I believe in Santa Clause too.

      Delete
    6. How exactly does google hanging out get me a cure? That's what I'd like to know.

      Delete
    7. It won't. On top of that, it won't help u2fp to survive either. That's all nonsense.

      Delete
    8. I take it you think u2fp should be able to finance all their work for cure with no donations and money, but then in the meantime the rest of us can sit around bitching and complaining about not having a cure or therapy. That's not a very clever strategy.

      Delete
  4. I love the W2W video's! Of course I'll be donating a 5 spot to watch them and help out. Thanks for the reminder Dennis. Super job U2FP.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Why not making also a CD with the whole conference and sell it for let's say 15$?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Probably because everyone expects a freebie for nothing, but it's a great idea!

      Delete
    2. You're probably right, can they distribute CD's of their conference for free too? We could send them blanks to be recorded on and then they can put the conference information on them and mail them back to us. Would we have to pay for shipping or would they be able to send them to us for free maybe?

      Delete
    3. Internet shopping mostly is free shipping during December but someone could contact the post office to see if they could arrange free or discount shipping. Why doesn't u2fo get us a website to do one click orders for the free CD like Amazon does?

      Delete
    4. Free conference CD and free shipping. Now why didn't I think of that?

      Delete
    5. Maybe because it wouldn't help the organization stay afloat. Ever heard of bankruptcy?

      Delete
    6. I think that's why Dennis is asking for everyone to help a little bit by remembering u2fp efforts and work by making a small donation. Non-profits in the states don't get government funding. They only exist if donors help the work by contributing a little money. Otherwise they close shop if there's no money coming in to work with.

      Delete
    7. I love their traveling sci cure meeting each year and the video album. I wouldn't know anything about research and cure without them. I don't understand reading the medical papers, but I get it better when the scientists explain it to everybody at the meetings. I'd be really lost without it. It's hard to learn to learn whats going on by reading.

      Delete
    8. We don't need to pay 15$ for CD. They put video on youtube and the vimeo for free already for us.

      Delete
  6. I am not going to donate one more cent to U2FP if they have to spend 5000$ for the videos when they could do it for free

    1. You probably don't anyway troll.

    2. I've seen the home movies style before. It's horrible. I'm happy to give my $5.00 so it's at least viewable. I want to see the conference along with the slides. I can't stand getting sick to my stomach watching a fast action back and forth movement like a football game. If the video isn't viewable then it's waste. Thank you Dennis. I'll send my money tonight.

      Delete
    3. That walking cure meeting should be called off. Nobody has to get free cures from them to. Everyone is owed free cures by govenerments. We feel mad and down and need to tell people to listen about it. If govenerments wont help us I think Chrisopfer Reve grupe will do it. My aunt and my grandpa sent them money so they got papers saying they wuld help on it. They have free vidoes to help to on you tube. I saw them and it is free. Who do I call. I don't hav there phone number but I can call to see on how to get cures from govenerments. It is not in the vidoes at there sigt. I wuld pay 5 to talk with them.

    4. Threats from a penniless troll? Now that's funny right there !!! He needs to keep his one cent and not trouble himself with helping a sci org to stay on the cure radar screen. What a comedian. He reminds me of the Cable Guy on late night television. LOL

      Delete
    5. Trolls tend to stop by this blog space quite often to make ridiculous stupid comments. I think it's the startling title that probably draws them in here from time to time. Stemcellsandatombombs. Trolls are a dime a dozen on the internet.

    6. LOL. Somebody send that troll a cent. He's all out. LMFAO

    7. He's the one wanting free meetings, free streaming, free video's, free CD's and free shipping. He thinks Donald Trump is being hidden in a sci closet by some miracle?

      Delete
    8. Oh, now that would be the Paolo guy at carecure doing his threatening routine again. He's the one wanting all funding for spinal cord injury abolished in New Jersey if they don't fund what he wants them to. He's long on threats and short on brains.

      Delete

    11. What ever happened with the Italy guy sending sci to California to parade around with flags for free at the world science meetings? Did he show up to do it? How did that one work out on carecure? Did he get anyone to fall for that one?

    12. No. Turns out it isn't a free meeting or streamed live.

      Delete
    13. I loss track of everything at carecure. I hate that new upgrade.

    14. I will go there next year and take home movies but I don't know how to put them online or anything. I can ask around and have somebody post it somewhere. I can take good pictures with my phone and show everybody to.

      Delete
    15. Take a tape recoder with you in case your camera is far away from the speakers. You can turn it on in the front before the people start to talk.

      Delete
    16. Take pictures of the slides on the screens or you can't see what it is they show and talk about when you get home to here your recoder.

      Delete
    17. Take the pressure off yourself and just go watch the show. The video is all on youtube for free showing the speakers and slides. Leave your equipment at home. You already have enough to worry about just getting yourself there in your chair without dragging cameras-phones-recorders with you.

      Delete
    18. I guess people will help on cure if they want and other people won't give a cent but that is ok I think. Not all people think it is possible but some of us know it will happen.

  7. Is it any wonder that Reeve and Hansen Foundations flourish on tons of money and they haven't done a thing for curing people with paralysis? Dennis puts up a post to help his favorite SCI charity and people roll over and play dead for a lousy five bucks. Go figure.

    1. It's not really about them playing dead. They just get off on whining, bitching and crying about every little thing under the sun like spoiled brats because they have nothing constructive to do. It should be called the baby brigade.

      Delete
    2. Baby brigade. That's a good explanation. Nothing of any value is free in this world such as free participation in conferences, free video's, free CD's and free shipping. This couch potato mentality and not showing up to learn science and talk to researchers, funders and government officials is stupid. You need to get your ass in gear and participate in order to move cure forward because nobody else is going to do it all for you. Advocating from your arm chair in front of a TV or computer and telling everyone else to show up and do it for free is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. If the baby brigade is that damn lazy none of you will ever get a cure or therapy. If you're not smart enough to know that a cure won't fall into your living rooms without participation, work and money then you're blubbering for nothing. Baby brigade indeed!

    6. Oh right. I remember now the Italian guy heading up the baby brigade posted his tiny crying baby pictures on carecure demanding free streaming live of the W2W conference from u2fp. Wise Young and the administrator guy of the forum got so mad they threatened to ban him. Leif, I almost forgot about his crying baby brigade. So funny it was.

    7. The cry baby stunt to get a freebie ticket into the meeting didn't pan out so good there at carecure for Paolo but I gave him a D+ for entertainment purposes anyway. I fell out of my chair laughing when a lynch mob came after him for being a jerk. The video's are online for free anyway so he didn't need to pinch a penny like that to start with. It was just one of his head games he plays when he's bored. He's a clown.

They've made it all possible for me to help too. I owe them so much and can never repay them.

  13. Thank goodness that unite to fight holds this meeting and lets us see it on free internet video every time. Of course I will do my part and chip in to help keep this conference going. Dennis is right. Where would we be without them doing all this for us? Even the smallest amount of donation will help keep it alive if people helped out just a bit. We all want a cure. Someday my daughter will be up and possibly even walking or at least without pain. I'm happy for any help we can get.
